Tucked on a hill overlooking the sparkling waters of Twofold Bay, Hamlet House • Eden is a newly refreshed three-bedroom, self-catering, pet-friendly holiday accommodation in historic Eden on the Far South (Sapphire) Coast of New South Wales, Australia.
Hamlet House is kitted out for maximum flexibility, functionality, and comfort. Drag the deck chairs out onto the front deck for end-of-day drinks while the setting sun kisses the cliffs across the bay -- bubbles and oysters, anyone? Inside, place the tables end to end for a family meal or make them into a desk or an intimate two-top for a virtual meeting or a candle-lit dinner.
Smart but unpretentious, Hamlet House sleeps seven in three bedrooms. The front veranda and fenced back yard mean there are spots for each guest to quietly meditate or join the crowd. Walk to town for a cuppa and a delicious treat at one of the several cafes. Walk down the hill to the beach, the skate park, the boardwalk around Lake Curalo -- all within reach of this comfortable and welcoming home away from home.
Hamlet House wears its mid-century origins with pride. Step out on the back landing, steaming coffee in hand, and scan the sea as others have done before you. One was an abalone diver, a Czechoslovakian post-war Olympian who came to Australia for opportunity. He quoted Latin, told his stories to the delight of the locals, and admired mid-century modern art (is the concrete work his, we wonder?). Imagine the footie coach and boiler-maker squinting down the hill to the playing fields, judging their conditions for the night's game.
Feel the deep connection of the Yuin Guyangal people to the sea, sitting on the hillside, reading the sea's conditions and considering what to collect, what to hunt, which yarns to pass along to the next generation.
The history of the house will embrace you, as you, too, become part of its saga.
There's an emerging vibe on the South Coast -- interesting food (restaurants, bistros, and markets), fantastic coffee, micro-breweries and distilleries, well-curated shops and galleries, bike trails, kayak tours, community pool and walking tracks -- all on offer.
You'll notice the country generosity, the elbow room, and the sapphire blue meeting of sea and sky that brings visitors back to Eden again and again.
We always feel our visits are too short. We reckon you will too.
