Hamlet House • Eden, on the South Coast of NSW, has been completely refurbished to keep you warm and comfortable during your holiday. Smartly appointed, with an eye to practicality, the house wears its mid-century history with pride.
Hamlet House History.
Built in the late 1960's, Hamlet House has been home to some fascinating characters -- footie coaches, abalone divers, Olympians, boilermakers, and mid-century art-lovers. Imagine them standing on the back stoop or front porch, cup of steaming coffee at hand, watching the sky and sea, just as each of us does today, breathing deeply in the clean crisp air. You can feel their indomitable spirit in the breath of the wind. Magic!
Overlooking Eden's Twofold Bay.
Hamlet House offers stunning water views from the front deck, the fully-fenced back yard, and two of the three bedrooms looking over Twofold Bay toward North Head. Over the playing fields to Aslings Beach, the water draws you in. Dawn light diffusing through the lifting fog, sunset kissing the cliffs across the bay, midday sparkling wavelets in the coves -- prepare to be captivated.
Amazingly versatile.
Park your fishing boat behind the gate or stash the kayaks under the house. Secure your gear and bikes in the lockable shed. Your family and pets are welcome as well at this comfortable self-catering holiday accommodation.
Flexibility.
We love flexibility and have furnished with many options in mind -- take the black deck chairs out onto the deck to watch the sun dance across the bay, rearrange the dining area tables to suit two or a crowd, feed the crew from the bar on the deck or have a deep conversation on the bench in the back yard. "Smart but practical" is our mantra.
Rug up or sun-bake, write your novel or salute the sun, gather company or seek out a quiet spot -- lean into any of those options and more at this comfortable, centrally located holiday house near the town, the pool and the beach.
Working holiday?
Hamlet House offers free unlimited wifi, so you'll have 24/7 connectivity. Cuppa at your elbow, windows open, and a short walk to town to stretch your legs or head down to the beach to watch for whales and dolphins. Stroll back for another go at conquering the world.
Inside.
You will find bits of bespoke design and locally sourced art and artefacts. Settle in and peruse the small (and growing) library of local history, fishing guides, local flora and fauna, and classics. Dig into the trunk for games to while away a lazy hour. Reverse-cycle air conditioning keeps the nights comfortable year round.
Relax.
You will notice yourself slowing down, breathing more deeply, and expanding your senses. Listen to the tink-tink of the bell birds in the distance, watch the sea roll in, and inhale the fresh crisp air. Even more important, you will find yourself responding to the country generosity that is part of the Far South Coast. That tick-list of must-do stuff? Consider doing each item at an Eden-time pace. Relax.
Explore.
Have fun exploring the fascinating South Coast (see our What's On page), and return each day to warm, comfortable Hamlet House • Eden.
Inclusive.

Hamlet House • Eden is located
Getting There.
Eden is equidistant from Sydney and Melbourne. Did you know Eden was once considered for the capitol city of Australia for just that reason? Just a pleasant day's road-trip, a smidge over six hours drive from either city, with plenty of time for stops at lovely little cafes along the way -- our favourite way to travel! We always add in an extra bit of time to stop for dog-breaks and a sniff- around to make sure our drive is as dog-friendly as it is human-friendly.
From Canberra.
Three hours drive across the changing landscape of Australia, a capsule of undulating hills with grazing mobs of kangaroo alongside peaceful herds of cattle, awe-inspiring river valleys, and sun-kissed dairy country -- some of the most beautiful countryside you'll find in this lucky land. Crest the escarpment and head down to the sea. Breathe deeply. You're in Eden.
We highly recommend the NSW Live Traffic and Victorian VicTraffic apps to check the condition of the roads and detours and slow-downs for works (available in both desktop and mobile app versions).
Flying In.
Still reeling from the impact of COVID-19 restrictions, flights into nearby Merimbula Airport are back on offer. From 18 December, Qantas will fly into Merimbula four days a week from Sydney, and Rex flies into Moruya (a couple of hours drive up the coast). Expect changes to this schedule as tourism reopens.
Sapphire Coast Villages.
Most of the Sapphire Coast villages are close by -- 15 or 20 minutes down the road, with a few within a 45 minutes drive along beautiful scenic highways. Pambula and Merimbula form a trio with Eden, just 20 minutes down the road. For Tura Beach, add another 5 minutes. Tathra and Bermagui lie along the coast about 45+ minutes from Eden. Cobargo, just recovering from the bushfires, will add another 20 minutes. You'll be in the Shire headquarters, Bega, in 45+ minutes, depending on your route.
Be amazed at the power of regeneration, and appreciate untouched areas more deeply. Be buoyed by the determination of locals to pull up their socks and move ahead with rebuilding their lives and businesses after a memorable 2020 -- drought, bushfires, COVID-19. Bring an empty Eskie!
The New Normal is a part of all of our lives. Whilst you are relaxing, thanks for remembering your social distancing and hand washing routine. Locally sourced hand sanitiser is available at Hamlet House.
There's an emerging vibe on the South Coast -- interesting food, fantastic coffee, micro-breweries and distilleries, well-curated shops and galleries, bike trails, kayak tours and walking tracks -- all on offer. Stop for coffee, lunch or a sweet treat in one of the many coffee shops, cafes and bistros in the South Coast area to fuel your day's exploration.
Known for its deep port, whale watching, and good fishing, Eden has exceptional facilities at Quarantine Bay, just 5 minutes south of Eden. The four parallel boat ramps are soon to be expanded. Fish-cleaning tables, frames bins, hose-off facilities are all well-maintained by the local fishing club. Smaller facilities can be found at Snug Cove where the commercial fishing and aquaculture industry is based.
Two local shops and a chandlery support sailing and recreational fishing , and moorings can be found at Snug Cove and Twofold Bay Yacht Club.
A new wave attenuator to create safe harbour for boats and yachts has been funded and boaties who love the pristine nature of the Far South Coast are excited, awaiting commencement of the works.
Missing a favourite restaurant at Snug Cove? We are too! A Crown Lands evaluation found the building housing the cafes and Marine Discovery Centre was unsafe. Once the report was in, the businesses were quickly closed in November 2020. Pop-up cafes and carts are scheduled over the summertime. Schedules for pop-ups (and all kinds of other information available from the dedicated folks at the Eden Information Centre, corner of Mitchell Street and Imlay, by the Library.

Open your heart. Fall in love.
Becca and Amy, two rescued racing greyhounds, invite you to share their yard, and explore Eden. Their humans are in on it too -- an architect and an artist from the Shoalhaven in NSW.
We hadn't anticipated how much we'd enjoy the stunning environment and very cool spirit that is Eden and the South Coast of NSW.
We are at peace here. We find ourselves breathing more deeply, and slowing our pace down a bit. When it comes time to leave, we find a way to stay an extra few days. You'll see what we mean.
End of day? Think captains chairs pulled to the deck, sun setting over the Bay, plate of freshly shucked oysters on the rail, cold glass of bubbles or brew. Couple of wet dogs drying off on the deck in the sun. Mmmm. Just the best!
Sounds good! Count me in! Book here.
