    Welcome

    Location, Location, Location

    At Hamlet House

Tucked on a hill overlooking the sparkling waters of Twofold Bay, Hamlet House • Eden is a newly refreshed three-bedroom, self-catering, pet-friendly holiday accommodation in historic Eden on the Far South (Sapphire) Coast of New South Wales, Australia.

Hamlet House is kitted out for maximum flexibility, functionality, and comfort.  Drag the deck chairs out onto the front deck for end-of-day drinks while the setting sun kisses the cliffs across the bay. Inside, place the tables end to end for a family meal or make them into a desk or an intimate two-top for a virtual meeting or a candle-lit dinner.

Smart but unpretentious, Hamlet House sleeps seven in three bedrooms.  The front veranda and fenced back yard mean there are spots for each guest to quietly meditate or join the crowd.  Walk to town for a cuppa and a delicious treat at one of many cafes.  Walk down the hill to the beach, the skate park, the boardwalk around Lake Curalo -- all within reach of this comfortable and welcoming home away from home.

Hamlet House wears its mid-century origins with pride.  Step out on the back landing, steaming coffee in hand, and scan the sea as many  have done before you.  One was an abalone diver, a  Czechoslovakian post-war Olympian sprinter who came to Australia for opportunity.  He delighted  in  quoting  Latin, told his stories to a  fascinated  audience of the locals, and admired mid-century modern art (is the artistic concrete work his, we wonder?).  Another  was  a   boiler-maker and  local  footie coach.  Imagine  him peering  down the hill to the playing fields,  judging  their conditions for the night's game. The history of the house will embrace you, as you, too, become part of its saga.

Feel the deep connection of the Yuin Guyangal people to the sea, sitting on the hillside, reading the sea's conditions and considering what to collect, what to hunt, and which yarns to pass along to the next generation.

There's an emerging vibe on the South Coast -- interesting food (restaurants, bistros, and markets), fantastic coffee, micro-breweries and distilleries, sourdough bakeries, well-curated shops and galleries, mountain  bike trails, kayak tours, yoga  classes, community pool and walking tracks -- all on offer.

You'll notice the country generosity, the elbow room, and the sapphire blue meeting of sea and sky that brings visitors back to Eden again and again.

We always feel our visits are too short.  We reckon you will too.

    Acknowledgement.

Hamlet House stands on the traditional lands of the Yuin Guyangal people.  We acknowledge their custodianship and their deep connection to the sea, the land, and the creatures therein.  We pay our respects to their elders, past, present and those just emerging.

The New Normal is a part of all of our lives.  Thanks for remembering your social distancing, and thoughtful monitoring of your own health as the COVID pandemic continues to live among us.  Hand sanitiser is available at Hamlet House.

Feeling altruistic?  Thank you for giving the pot plants a little drink!  They'll be prettier for you to enjoy.

Inclusivity.  Hamlet House is an inclusive holiday accommodation and welcomes families and friends of all stripes and polkadots.

    • Children's Equipment.  For specialised equipment for children, Merimbula Holiday Hire in Pambula (0428 868 899) holds a considerable inventory of cribs, high chairs and other necessities for your wee kids.  Just give them a ring if you are travelling light.

    • Thank you for taking your catch to their facility - just 10 minutes down the road - to clean your catch.

    Snug Cove, Eden

Hamlet House • Eden is centrally located

    • near the community pool,
    • two blocks from Aslings Beach,
    • two blocks from shops, the markets, bottle-o, the news agent, and several bistros and food shops, playgrounds, sports fields and pocket parks
    • twenty-minute walk or 5 minute drive to Snug Cove  (pictured above) and the Killer Whale Museum.
    • 2b  Rose  Court,  Eden

    Getting There.

Eden is equidistant from Sydney and Melbourne.  Did you know Eden was once considered for the capitol city of Australia for just that reason? Just a pleasant day's road-trip, a smidge over six hours drive from either city, with plenty of time for stops at lovely little cafes along the way -- our favourite way to travel! We always add in an extra bit of time to stop for dog-breaks and a sniff- around to make sure our drive is as dog-friendly as it is human-friendly.

From Canberra. Three hours drive across the incredible changing landscape of eastern Australia, a capsule of undulating hills with grazing mobs of kangaroo alongside peaceful herds of cattle, awe-inspiring river valleys, and sun-kissed dairy country -- some of the most beautiful countryside you'll find in this lucky land. Crest the escarpment and head down to the sea.  Hear the bell-birds?  Breathe deeply.  You're in Eden.

We highly recommend the NSW Live Traffic and Victorian VicTraffic apps to check the condition of the roads and detours and slow-downs for works.

Flying In. Still reeling from the impact of COVID-19 restrictions, and a recent refurbishing, flights into nearby Merimbula Airport are back on offer.  Qantas will fly into Merimbula four days a week from Sydney, and Rex flies into Moruya (a couple of hours drive up the coast).  Expect seasonal changes to this schedule.

Sapphire Coast Villages. Most of the Sapphire Coast villages are close by -- 15 or 20 minutes down the road, with a few within a 45 minutes drive along beautiful scenic highways.  Pambula and Merimbula form a trio with Eden, just 20 minutes down the road.  For Tura Beach and its golf course, add another 5 minutes. Tathra and Bermagui lie along the coast about 45+ minutes from Eden. Cobargo, just recovering from the bushfires, will add another 20 minutes.  You'll be in the Shire headquarters, Bega, in 45+ minutes, depending on your route.

Be amazed at the power of regeneration, and appreciate untouched areas more deeply. Be buoyed by the determination of locals to pull up their socks and move ahead with rebuilding their lives and businesses after a challenging few years -- drought, bushfires, floods and COVID-19.  Bring an empty Eskie!

Missing a favourite restaurant at Snug Cove?  We are too!

A Crown Lands evaluation found the building housing the cafes and Marine Discovery Centre was unsafe.  Once the report was in, the businesses were quickly closed in November 2020.

Pop-up cafes,  marquees, and a daily coffee cart are scheduled.  Times/locations for pop-ups (and all kinds of other information) available from the dedicated folks at the  Eden Information Centre, now at the wharf at Snug Cove, Eden.

    Love Story

Our Sister BnB at Culburra Beach

    Location, Location, Location

    Amy and Becca, rescued greyhounds.

Open your heart. Fall in love.

Becca and Amy, two rescued racing greyhounds, invite you to share their yard, and explore Eden. Their humans are in on it too -- an architect and an artist from up the NSW coast.

We hadn't anticipated how much we'd enjoy the stunning environment and very cool spirit that is Eden and the Sapphire Coast of New South Wales.

We are at peace here. We find ourselves breathing more deeply, and slowing our pace down a bit. When it comes time to leave, we find a way to stay an extra few days. You'll see what we mean.

End of day? Think captains chairs pulled to the deck, sun setting over the Bay, plate of freshly shucked oysters on the rail, cold glass of bubbles or brew. Couple of wet dogs drying off on the deck in the sun.  Mmmm.  Just the best!

Sounds great!  Count me in!  Check rates and availability:  Click here.
